Columbia & Snake River Summer Itinerary
DAY 1 Cruise From Portland, Oregon Cruise From Portland, Oregon Airport-to-ship transfer is included.
Embark mid-afternoon. Enjoy a sparkling wine toast while dinner cruising the
Willamette River beneath Portland’s skyline. D
DAY 2 Columbia River Gorge Columbia River Gorge Enter the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic
Area created by the water cutting down while the Cascades lifted up. Observe
numerous spectacular landslides and waterfalls created by cataclysmic floods
from Montana during the last ice age. Transit the locks of Bonneville Dam
which has provided transportation, hydroelectric power generation,
irrigation and recreation since 1938. Tour the dam’s Visitor Center. Emerge
from this 125 mile long 4,000 feet high canyon at The Dalles where pioneers
once loaded wagons onto barges as they migrated west. Transit John Day Dam,
the highest single-lift lock in the free world at the head of Lake Celilo.

DAY 3 Pendleton Pendleton Shore tour to Pendleton along the Oregon Trail route used by
pioneers. Tour underground tunnels dug between 1870 and 1930 by the Chinese
for connecting their laundries to illegal saloons, bordellos and opium dens.
Enter the Pendleton Woolen Mills opened in 1909 to weave blankets for
Indians. Observe operating, computerized looms and their finished products.
Lunch is served at the Old Western-style Hamley’s Saloon offering
handcrafted meals cooked with regional ingredients, locally grown produce
and the finest Northwest wines and micro-brews. Explore the Tamastslikt
Cultural Institute honoring the 10,000-year history of the Confederated
Tribes of the Umatilla, Cayuse, and Walla Walla. Learn about their history
through interactive exhibits and a Living Cultural Village. BLD
DAY 4 Hells Canyon Hells Canyon Transit Lower Granite Dam locks and dock in Clarkston,
Washington - “the Northwest’s most inland seaport” - at confluence of the
Snake and Clearwater Rivers. Jet boat up the Snake River into North
America’s deepest gorge Hells Canyon with 8,000 foot high mountains rising
to the east in Idaho and to the west in Oregon. Watch for elk, bighorn sheep
and 7,000-year-old Indian petroglyphs. BLD
DAY 5 Walla Walla Walla Walla Shore tour for an elegant lunch followed by tastings at
two wineries and an historic tour of Walla Walla. Time will be allowed for
you to explore on your own. BLD
DAY 6 River Cruising Cruising A full day of leisurely cruising past ancient
petroglyphs, granite and basalt cliffs, Beacon Rock, Multnomah Falls, Cape
Horn and legendary Rooster Rock. Transit the three locks of McNary, John Day
and The Dalles dams. BLD
DAY 7 Longview & Mt. St. Helens Longview & Mt. St. Helens Shore tour to Mt. St. Helens Volcanic
Monument. Travel within 5 ½ miles from the crater. Conditions permitting,
look into the crater from the nearby observatory and interpretive center
where you will learn about the cataclysmic 1980 eruption which leveled 230
square miles of mature forest and removed 1,300 feet from the top of the
mountain. BLD
DAY 8 Portland Disembark after a full, sit-down breakfast at 9 am in
downtown Portland with a life time of memories to take along your way. A
transfer is included to the Portland Airport. B
